COMPETITION HEALTH REGULATIONS
1- ONLY ANIMALS THAT COMPLY WITH THE FOLLOWING WILL BE ALLOWED TO COMPETE
a) They are electronically identified in accordance with the SIAC rules, in the case of national competitors, or in the case of animals from other countries, in accordance with the identification system in force in the country of origin which allows the animal to be identified accurately and effectively;
b) Have a health certificate for dogs and cats and proof of rabies vaccination within the period of validity;
c) They have been vaccinated against the main infectious diseases of the species for more than eight days and are within their expiration date, as evidenced by the appropriate vaccination labels on the Health Bulletin for Dogs and Cats, duly authenticated by a veterinarian.
AMPUTATIONS
(Decreto – lei nº 276/2001 de 17/10 in its current version)
1 - Owners of pets who present them with any amputation that alters the appearance of the animal or is not for curative purposes must have a document from the veterinarian who performed the amputation certifying the need for the amputation, in particular stating that the amputation was performed for medical-veterinary reasons or in the private interest of the animal.
2 - The document referred to in the previous paragraph must be in the form of a certificate bearing the veterinarian's identification, professional card number and signature.
3 - Keepers of imported animals with any of the amputations referred to in paragraph 1 must have a document certifying the need for the amputation, issued by the veterinarian who performed it and legalized by the competent authority of the country in question.
2 - IT IS UP TO THE ORGANIZERS:
a) Ensure that the number of veterinarians required by law is present;
b) Ensure that the venue of the event provides conditions to safeguard the welfare of the animals, in particular with regard to protection from the weather, access to water and avoidance of excessive noise or light, and that the animals are not placed in situations that could be detrimental to their health and well-being, such as being left in vehicles in hot or cold weather or causing them to suffer;
c) Ensuring the safety against potentially dangerous animals, which must be properly muzzled or protected from contact with the public outside of the competition;
d) Provide such means as the veterinarians deem necessary for the proper performance of their duties;
e) Ensure that the venue is kept clean, in particular by ensuring that those responsible for the animals collect their waste;
f) Ensure that the sale of animals at the event is prohibited;
g) Ensure that a participant's failure to abide by the rules of the event will result in the participant's disqualification from the event.
3 - THE VETERINARIANS IN CHARGE OF THE SHOW OR COMPETITION MUST:
a) Verification of the electronic identification of the animals and its correspondence with that on the bulletin;
b) Perform a visual clinical examination of the animals entered for the event;
c) Examine animal health records;
d) Provide veterinary assistance in the event of an incident during the competition. If medical care is required during the event, it will be provided by the veterinarians in charge of the Pet Festival 2025 event.
